Five States in one week....July Adventures...

July has been a rather eventful month with our family vacation, swim team and summer camps.  First off our vacation to NYC and Ocean City, MD was so much fun.  Nana came into town on July 10 and we spent the whole entire (13 hours) next day exploring Manhattan.  We visited a lot of the usual spots like Rockefeller Center, Times Square, Central Park and the shops along 5th Ave, but we also checked out The World Trade Center Gallery (a memorial to 9/11) and Battery City Park where we found a cool water playground for the kids to take a nice cool dip in.

We spent the following week in Ocean City, MD exploring the beautiful Delaware and Maryland beaches.  We did the usual putt putt, outlet shops, boardwalk and beach/pool, but took on a new adventure this year and spent one morning kayaking at Assawoman National Seashore in Delaware.  It was a thrill to watch the kids kayak for the first time.  Josie was a pro and it seemed as if she'd been kayaking for years.  Will enjoyed his tiny paddle and helping Ernie steer the kayak. We parked our kayaks for a walk along the beach and found raccoon tracks, a horseshoe crab and a lots of driftwood, oh and of course Mr. Crabby whom Will tried to take home with us.

After a relaxing week in Ocean City we took the Lewes-Cape May ferry from Lewes (the first town in the first state) across the Delaware Bay and explored the oceanfront resort town of Cape May, NJ.  The town is about 200 years old and most of the homes are Victorian-style and are very beautiful and colorful.  We picked up a few souvenirs at The Whale Tale and had yummy tacos and nachos at Key

West Tacos before we headed home.  The drive home was just as scenic as the week at the beach as we traveled along the Jersey shore and then across the Walt Whitman suspension bridge with picturesque views of downtown Philly.
