One Month Anniversary

Well Cleo just yacked all over the floor so I'm up....so I thought I'd write about what's on my mind. We took the picture above yesterday of Cleo wearing Callie's collar. When we brought Callie and her collar up to our room...Cleo came running as fast as she could and we think it's because she heard the jingle of Callie's collar, a very distinct sound that she was very accustom to hearing before Callie passed. Animals are so smart...

Yesterday marked the one month anniversary of Callie's death. It was really funny...for some reason I decided yesterday that it was time to bring Callie's ashes up to our room. They've been resting on Ernie's grandmother's window sill (next to cousin Tabitha) and that well just seemed like the perfect place for them. Grandma watching over them while Callie watches squirrels run around the front yard.

I just felt compelled yesterday of all days to bring her up to our bedroom and she is now resting on the floor by my desk, where if she were alive I know she would be. Callie was what I affectionately referred to her as "my black shadow" always following me around and sleeping in close proximity to me at all times day or night. So for me that has been the hardest part...not having that faithful companion right and I mean right by my side.

So now I am officially that person who has to say hello and pet every small or large canine I see. Yesterday we saw the most beautiful dog called a Barbet (french water dog) of course a rare breed so I doubt we'll ever rescue one, but wow what a beautiful dog. Sweet, gentle and very calm just lying on the floor. I have also ran into many cute pups in our neighborhood on my lonely walks. Lots and lots of labs they are all over the place here. Our neighbors also have two beautiful Great Pyrenees' that totally remind me of our sweet Callie. They have the same walk, same facial structure and same thick coat except that their coats are snow white.

Every time I see a dog I have to ask the owner what kind of dog it is and what it's like etc. I always research the dog and then go on pet finder.com and check out how many dogs of that breed need a home. We know for sure that we will rescue our next dog. Or as Ernie says we won't find the dog she/he will find us just as Callie and Cleo did. When we are ready we will open our home and our hearts to our next furry child.

I do have to give pet finder a plug if you are looking for a best friend please check this website before going to a breeder. There are so many (about 150,000) beautiful, loving animals already on the earth that need a forever home.

This post is for my sweet girl and so is this beautiful poem that a good friend and fellow animal lover sent our way...enjoy!!
The Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
