Say Yes to Scarecrows and Pumpkins

We filled a dreary Saturday afternoon with a trip to the local pumpkin patch and a scavenger hunt on Main Street in Emmaus.  Two pumpkins, a couple of gourds and four corn stalks later it was feeling much like a nice fall day in Pennsylvania.

The kids grabbed a wagon and headed into the patch in search of the perfect pumpkin for which to carve little Will-o-lanterns and Josie-o-lanterns.  I'd mentioned wanting a green pumpkin and Josie spotted the perfect one, then we grabbed the tallest pumpkin in the patch for our orange pick.  Josie said Cleo needed a small pumkin and added a yellow and white striped gourd to our wagon.  Will never fails to pick out the ugliest gourd in the group...always resembling a witched nose...all bumpy and curvy.  The latter are all adorning the front steps of our Alburtis home.  The search is still on for a gender non-specific scarecrow to hang with the corn stalks...pictures soon.

After cramming all of the above into the grocery getter we headed to Main street in Emmaus to see the scarecrows.  Every store front in Emmaus, a quaint small town in East Penn, was decorated by a characterized scarecrow.  There were Emmaus High cheerleaders, football and lacrosse players, a nun, a recycle and re-use one, an elephant and a cute little Girl Scout Brownie to name just a few.
