American Girls Take Manhattan

Josie and I enjoyed a beautiful two day trip into the big city.  We left on Saturday morning and headed 90 miles to Bloomfield, NJ and the home of Uncle Max and Aunt Deirdre Nerges...after catching up with Deirdre and meeting their cute dogs, Roxy and Lily, we headed to the local train station, ready for our adventure to begin.

We took a double decker commuter train  and we sat back, relaxed and enjoyed the short 30 minute ride into Manhattan.  Once at Penn Station we went outside and hailed a NYC yellow cab in front of Madison Square Garden bound for Park Avenue and the Waldorf-Astoria.  Josie was facinated by the small TV screen in the cab while I enjoyed the jerky, typical NYC cab ride.  We went 20 blocks and passed through the streets of this very busy metropolitan area.

Once at the Waldorf=Astoria we were amazed by the lobby and our first impression of this NYC art deco landmark.  Ana checked us in and when she found out it was a girls' birthday weekend she bumped us up to a 22nd-floor suite.  It was quite impressive especially our view of the Chrysler Building.

After checking out our room we walked to Times Square for lunch and a broadway show.  Mary Poppins was awesome Josie and I loved every minute of it especially when Bert walked/tapped danced upside down around the stage.

Three hours  later after Mary Poppins we walked back through Times Square and headed to 5th Avenue to check out FAO Schwartz.  The biggest toy store on the planet it was a maze of toys.  We expecially liked the Harry Potter store, LEGO world, The "BIG" piano and the stuffed animal world.  Josie bought herself an art board, Will a LEGO and blue magic chewing gum from the Harry Potter's store and Ernie a cool hacky sack.

As we left the greatest toy store on Earth we were saluted by a real live toy soldier and walked out into the cool Saturday evening air.  We walked up 5th Avenue and went into a few famous stores: Louis Vuitton, Tiffany and Company and Prada.  We also walked through Rockefellor Center and saw the ice rink full of skaters.

The next day was as amazing as the first.  We started our day with a quick four minute walk to American Girl for brunch.  Aunt Deirdre joined us and we enjoyed brunch and then some shopping.  Afterwards we walked around the store and then I surprised Josie with a new doll, Lanie, doll of the year for 2010.

We visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Sunday afternoon, and it was even better than I expected it to be.  We toured the Egyptian wing, the American Wing, Medieval Art, Greek and Roman Hall and 19th Century art.  I will have to dedicate an entire post to the MET just to do it justice.  I am hoping to go back again by myself and do the audio tour.

And for a grand finale Pink Berry....yum, yum, yum!
