Josie got to spend the night at the local science center with her brownie troop. She was beaming from ear to ear when I picked her up the next morning. She got to do experiments, play with mood mud, learn about scat (animal droppings) and sleep in the same room with crickets, two snakes and a poisonous spider. All of this of course was amazing to her.
We took it a few steps further later that morning when we went on a walk with our dog, Theo. Josie and I were talking about litter and recycling while Will looked for his own personal litter, he’d dropped his snack bag on our way to the park. Before I knew it Will and Josie were picking up trash all around Lockridge Park. They threw the waste in the cans at the park and sorted the plastic and paper into our recyclable containers at home. Josie is very interested in our environment and keeping it clean…she’s asked me a question about it each day since.
Ernie and Josie went back to the park and collected what they needed: soil, sand, moss, dead leaves and a small plant. They put all of it in an empty pickle jar and punched holes in the top. Josie waters it each day with a sprayer. We put a bluebell bulb in there so we’re hoping it will bloom soon. We've also added two slugs, and they look right at home.
Not to be outdone by his sister...Will has been learning about volcanoes in school and brought one home for all of us to see. He made it at school using dough painted brown for the mountain and a cup in the top. We put baking soda, vinegar and red food coloring in the cup on top, and it exploded and ran down the dough mountain. He loved it so much he ended up exploding it about five times today.
Learning is so much fun through the eyes of your children…..
