Change Isn't Good or Bad, Just Inevitable
I'm not sure if it's because we're forced to accept change and move on, or because changing was ultimately the right decision, and sometimes it just takes a while to realize it. I'm sure it's a little bit of both.
Change: The Greek philosopher Heraclitus used the metaphor of a river to speak of change thus, "superficially a river may appear to be a permanent and stable entity, but closer inspection reveals that it continually changes, not being the same river from one moment to the next." Thus a living organism, which, in order to remain "alive," must constantly be changing.
Adventure has always been a motto for our family we enjoy the challenge and the change of scenery. I like the saying, "home is where the heart is." For us as long as we're together than we're home. Whether we're in a sprawling suburban home, a temporary hotel room or a not-so-spacious townhouse.
As I write this we are anticipating yet another move, one we hope will be much more permanent than all the others. It will be our eighth move in 13 years of marriage. Here's a list of our moves just for nostalgia-sake:
Pensacola-Shreveport (4/99)
Shreveport-Minot (1/00)
Minot-Shreveport (12/01)
Shreveport-Minot (4/02)
Minot-San Antonio (1/03)
San Antonio-Salt Lake City (3/06)
Salt Lake City-Fairfax (8/08)
Fairfax-Alburtis (2/09)
Alburtis-Columbus (5/12)
Ernie started a new job in September. He is now a Logistics Design Manager for Exel and is enjoying the new position and traveling to the different warehouses. He's already been to Houston, Mechanicsburg, Dallas, Cleveland, Missouri and Scranton. Change for him has been a long time coming. He needed to move on to a new position and needed to be challenged again.
We are moving to Columbus Exel's headquarters and are looking at a few areas in the suburbs. The schools are excellent and the town has lots of great things to offer. For us it will be another place to collect adventures.
The Anglicized name "Ohio" comes from the Iroquois word ohi-yo’, meaning "great river." Interesting how this word fits with my change metaphor above.
The Buckeye state ....great cities that start with our favorite letter C, a great lake and an Air Force base is nearby. If you're wondering what a buckeye is well it's several things....a species of tree, a breed of chicken and of course Ohio State's mascot, a butterfly and an aircraft. With that many possibilities I know our family will discover our inner buckeye and fit right in.
